God's perceptions of His promises for protection and ours seem be taken from different vantage points. We imagine that they pertain to physical dangers. Though we may find ourselves protected from bodily harm, there is no biblical guarantee that we will escape all such harm. Along with the riches of the Kingdom, we have been promised persecution, temptation, trial and sometimes martyrdom.
Add to this, the nature of life in this world. Cars collide. Disease threatens. Markets are insecure. We've been warned, "In the world you have trouble" (John 16:33). That is a fact. The very good news is that Jesus has overcome this world (also John 16:33). God''s promise to each of us is that when we face trouble we are not alone. He is with us and will not abandon us (See Hebrews 13:5,6).
Instead of telling your children and grandchildren that God will protect them at all times and in all ways, it is better to tell them that no matter what they face, God will be with them and help them face it. We need not fear and we need to teach them that they need not fear any manner of trouble. We need not be intimidated. God is with us. That is the greatest promise of protection.
