"Keep On Praying"
by Kevin "Mac" McClure
The title of today's E-pistle comes from the New Living Translation of 1 Thessalonians5:17. Other versions usually say, "Pray without ceasing." The idea of this text is not to literally marathon our way into and through prayer, but to remain in a constant state of uninterrupted communion with the One to Whom we pray.
Prayer is a communication device, like a cell phone. It is not an accessory to the Christian life. It is a vital tool that enables us to live under God's influence night and day and to become change agents by enlisting God's help so that His Kingdom might come and will may be done in our spheres of influence.
This means, pray at every opportunity. Facing trouble? Pray. Rejoicing? Giving thanks in prayer. It's not hard to think of the many ways we forget to include God in the details of our lives. How might your life be different if you invited Him into everything? If you invite Him (continually) into your marriage, your thought life, your dreams, your finances, your health and your work? Is there a downside? No. You'll find that He is not interested in controlling your every move. He doesn't want you to be a puppet. He simply wants you to have the benefit of His influence.
Keep on praying!
