Your mind is a very busy place. Are you beset with unsettling thoughts? Of course! While the mind is a beautiful and spectacular gift, it is also the “place” where most of our spiritual battles happen. It is in the world of thoughts that a person comes to experience God’s abundance or defeat.
You and I know from experience that feelings are powerful. Do you know where feelings come from? They come from thoughts. Every feeling, good or bad, can be traced to a thought. If you become aware of the thought, you will realize that you are either believing a thought that is derived from God’s perspective or from some other perspective.
This reality demands that you and I learn to discern. We need to learn to discern between truth and error. We are told that we can rely on God’s Word because it tells us the truth (see John 10:35;17:17; Matthew 4:4; 2 Timothy 3:16,17).
We need to regularly ingest (through reading and listening) God’s Word. This will familiarize us with the truth. Scripture that is ingested fortifies and transforms us and it will also give us the strength we need to resist thoughts that are untrue.
I recommend a daily regimen of Bible reading (and prayer) AND regular times of fellowship with others around the Word of God. In solitude and in community, we can learn the Word, ingest it, and be transformed by it. Let your mind be filled with truth that will repel lies.
